Life Day - Bill Cable Something that grabs our attention is the play of light. Cable shows the diffused light through zippotone-like dappled ink dots instead of the more traditional cross-hatching. The life-day orb truly seems to glow on the ceremonial robes. To create a contrast to the light there is also the added strip of black at the long armhole. A wonderful detail is how the radiation from the globe subtly diminishes the further the robe gets from the light source. With this much attention to the light, we are even more liable to accidentally call it a "light day" festival. The attention to form also impresses. Though the figure is covered in robes, we really feel the body underneath through texture and line. The hand detail is particularity nice as it clearly grips the ball. Even the slight slouch of Peter Mayhew under the costume is conveyed by having the central axis of the figure slightly off balance. Accesso: Galleria degli Ch'Uffizi |
